Description  Senol Kucukyildirim was born in Istanbul, Turkey. He studied
violin at Istanbul University and at Istanbul conservatory. Since his
entire family were musicians and his father was a drummer, he picked up
drumming at a very early age. Eversince, he has been involved in many live
performances in Turkey, Canada and in the USA. Meeting Don Cherry in
Istanbul was very influential on him in terms of getting involved with
other aspects of Jazz. This very incidental meeting with Cherry also
influenced his decision to move to the United States where he continiued
his studies; He went to Berklee College of Music and studied privately
with Ian Froman, Joe Hunt, Jamey Haddad , Giovanni Hidalgo. He also had
lessons with Ed Blackwell and Alan Dawson outside of Berklee. Inspired by
its Third Stream Department , he went to New England Conservatory. Studied
with Joe Maneri and George Russel. He got involved with electronic music
at Harvard University, where he had the opportunity meet and perform with
Ivan Tcherepnin and John Cage. As a Jazz musician he played with Bern Nix,
Cecil Taylor and Raphe Malik in NYC. He has met with Billy Higgins, Dewey
Redman and participated in some sessions. In the Boston area, he played
with Aydin Esen, Joshua Redman, John Lockwood , Reggie Workman, Avishai
Cohen, Raqib Hassan, Joe Morris, Nate McBride, Michael Adkins, Jim Hobbes,
Timo Shenko, Eric Zinman, and many others. Senol kucukyildirim now reides
in Istanbul, travels in the Boston-NYC-Canada-Istanbul areas and performs
in festivals, and radio programs.

Description  Shapiro Project is a las vegas based young jazz quartet that

Description  Rick Simerly - is a jazz trombonist and currently Associate
Professor of Music at Milligan College in Tennessee. He has been described
by David Baker as ".one of the most exciting and consistently creative
trombonists in jazz today." He is an active clinician and performer for
Conn-Selmer, Inc., and plays Conn trombones exclusively. Rick has played
in the bands of Tommy Dorsey, Woody Herman, Nelson Riddle, Les Elgart, Bob
Crosby, Jimmy Dorsey, Buddy Morrow, and the last band of Charlie Spivak.
He has toured with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra under the

Description  Trained in classical piano at the Eastman School of Music and
the New England Conservatory, Peggy Stern arrived at jazz via R&B and
Latin music. Peggy's improvisations have a particularly broad ethnic base:
in addition to European and American classical music, her music draws from
Irish, African, Jewish, Brazilian, Cuban, and American jazz influences.
Peggy has worked, recorded and toured in a variety of situations, from
solos to octets to jazz choruses. Her compositions range from
reharmonizing standards to original pieces.

Description  Pianist/Composer Michael Jefry Stevens has been an active
pianist/composer and band-leader for the past 30 years. He currently
co-leads several working musical ensembles with whom he performs
extensively in Europe and North America. He received his MA from Queens
College where he studied with Jimmy Heath and Sir Roland Hanna. Mr.
Stevens has been on the faculty of Five Towns College and The National
Guitar Workshop, and has been guest clinician and artist in residence at
the The University of Michigan, Indiana University, Arisona State
University, Iowa State University, Northern Illinois University, Syracuse
University, Virginia Intermont Colelge, Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus
(Denmark), Centro Nacional de las Artes in Mexico CIty and elsewhere. He
has composed over 350 original compositions for both small and large jazz
ensembles and has released over 40 CDs of his original music on numerous
jazz record labels. He currently resides in Memphis, TN.

Description  Dr. Tom Streeter is director of the jazz program and
professor of music at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Ill. He
conducts two jazz ensembles, administers the instrumental department and
teaches low brass students. He especially enjoys working with jazz
ensembles in a clinic situation. Streeter holds a bachelor's and master's
degree from Indiana University and a doctorate from the Catholic
University of America. His performance credentials on bass trombone
include extended tours with the internationally acclaimed USAF Jazz Band,

Description  Shilo Stroman is the director of Jazz and Percussion at Mtn.
View High School in Loveland, CO and the director of percussion at Fossil
Ridge High School in Ft. Collins, CO. He is also an active performer on

Description  Joey Stuckey is a blind musician with an insightful vision.
Joey Stuckey is a blind guitarist, songwriter, singer, composer, producer,
radio personality, teacher, and sound engineer. Stuckey lost his sight and
sense of smell as an infant as the result of a brain tumor. Despite these
limitations, he remained in mainstream education. Scholastically
outstanding, Joey Stuckey graduated from high school at the age of 14. At
the age of 17 he began his musical career by taking classical guitar
lessons from noted music professor Terry Cantwell, while attending classes
at Mercer University where he earned a minor in history and a major in
marketing. At the age of 21, he released his debut album "Take a Walk in
the Shadows" which has been highly acclaimed by those who have listened.
Stuckey has subsequently opened his own digital recording facility called
Shadow Sound Studio and has hosted three radio programs dedicated to
preserving and promoting Georgia music. His second album debuted in 1999
entitled "Ironies, Pain, and the Light That Guides". This was followed by
two live albums entitles "Live and Stuff" in 2000 and "Live and More
Stuff: The Sequel to the Prequel" in 2001. His current album entitled "So
Far" is a collection of the favorite songs from the previous four records
with two new tracks. Stuckey is currently working on his debut jazz album
entitled "Sneakin'" and well as his country album entitled "Welcome to
Stuckey Country: Population You". Stuckey's classically trained chops and
great ear have been acclaimed by the Atlanta Society of Entertainers with
their Recording Artist of the Year Award in 1999, the Little Jimmy Dempsey
Award for Musical Excellence in 2000, and the Jazz Artist of the Year in
2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004. He won the Cotton Carrier Award in 2000 from
the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame for his numerous contributions to
the Georgia music community. Stuckey won the 2004 Reader's Choice Award in
the Eleventh Hour Magazine for best singer/songwriter. He is also an
artist in good standing of GACAA (Georgia Assembly of Community Arts
Agencies), a voting member of the Atlanta Chapter of NARAS (National
Association of Recording Arts & Sciences), BMI, a founding member of the
Georgia Allman Brothers Band Association, the first of the Macon Chapter
of GMIA (Georgia Music Industry Association), and the youngest member
appointed to the Georgia Music Hall of Fame Advisory Committee.

Description  The Super Jazz Band is a professional big band with over 25
years experience in the Hampton Roads area. Members of the Super Jazz Band
have performed with many of the premier music acts in the country,
including Nancy Wilson, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Ray

Description  Steve Swell first came to public attention performing with
Makanda Ken McIntyre in the multi-instrumentalist's concert at Carnegie
Recital Hall in 1985 of which Herb Boyd of The Amsterdam News wrote,
"Swell possess(es) a forceful, but mature sound...with a vibrant
syncopation..." Swell came to international attention while touring in
Europe and recording with altoist Tim Berne and his group "Caos Totale."
There are two studio recordings of this band on the JMT label. During this
time Steve also toured and recorded with Joey Baron's "Barondown" who
released three CDs; one for JMT, New World and Avant. Even though he is
identified with the "downtown scene," Swell has been developing his style
in the more so-called "traditional avant-garde" arena. Co-leading projects
such as "Space, Time, Swing" with Perry Robinson, being a sideman in
William Parker's "Little Huey Creative Music Orchestra" and working with
other similar people has kept him on this circuit. Dave McElfresh of Jazz
Now wrote in a review of drummer Lou Grassi's CD, PoGressions, "Swell's
powerful trombone zooms in and out of the music like a plane diving at a
target. Players like himself - and music like this - are to be thanked for
the revival of interest in the instrument." Swell's newest CDs, "Slammin'
the Infinite" with Sabir Mateen and "Desert Stories" with Gebhard Ullman
and Barry Altschul were released at the end of 2004. His "Suite For
Players", placed number 2 in the Cadence Magazine Readers Poll for 2004.
His Fire into Music band, with Hamid Drake, William Parker and Jemeel
Moondoc toured the states and Canada this past fall, 2004. Swell was also
a featured soloist in Anthony Braxton's opera, "Shala Fears For The Poor,"
performed at John Jay College in NYC. Steve recently taught a master class
at New England Conservatory in Boston and he is also an artist/mentor in
the NYC public school system.

Description  Swing Shift is a nonprofit community-based big band located
in Eugene, Oregon. It was begun in 1978 under the auspices of the City of
Eugene's Parks and Recreation Department as an outlet for interested
players to rehearse and perform big band music. The band has always had a
strong educational emphasis; many of its members are (or were) music
educators or students. Performances and workshops for public schools and
jazz festivals are regular events, and members are often adjudicators
and/or clinicians. Swing Shift is directed by composer/arranger Jim Olsen.
