In 1951 Kenny Burrell was a 19 year-old guitarist living in his hometown of Detroit. Out of the blue he received a phone call that was to change his life. The caller was none other than Dizzy Gillespie asking Burrell not only to gig and record with his band, which at the time included both John Coltrane and Percy Heath, but to go on the road with them as well.
